Clara R. Capodiferro

Clara R. Capodiferro, 83, formerly of Stairs Road in Amsterdam, passed away peacefully at the E.L. Wilkinson Nursing Home in Amsterdam on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Her loving family was by her side. She was born August 11, 1929, in Pawlet, Vermont, the daughter of the late Louis and Ruth Wells Gagne.

Clara is a graduate of Northville High School. She received her license for practical nursing from Amsterdam City School of Nursing. She was employed as an LPN and volunteered at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital for sixty years. She was a proud nurse, and her caregiving intuition followed her throughout her lifetime with her children, grandchildren and friends.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Broadalbin and the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary along with the Perth Seniors. She loved to travel, including trips to Atlantic City and casinos, shopping and going to the theater. Above all she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She married Emilio Capodiferro on December 2, 1950. They shared a loving union of thirty-five years until his passing on July 23, 1985.

Her loving family includes a son, Michael A. Capodiferro (Susan) of West Galway; daughters, Marie A. Woodman (Carl) of Amsterdam and Marlene A. Capodiferro of Ballston Spa; grandchildren, Carl Woodman II, Clinton Woodman, Emilio Capodiferro II, Angela Reisinger, Michayla DiCaprio, Stephanie Stomski and Antoni Stomski; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, William Gagne and Clarence Gagne of Northville, N.Y. She also is survived by her best friend, who was like a sister to her, Audrey Flint, of Amsterdam, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to visit today, April 29, 2013, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Betz Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman, Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant.
