Joseph R. Maybury Sr.
Joseph R. Maybury Sr., age 68, of Gloversville, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was born on December 21, 1944, in Gloversville, to the late Joseph and Jane Susman Maybury.
Joe will be remembered for his dedication and devotion to the Boy Scouts of America for 35 years, and JAVAC of Johnstown. He was known by so many, and always willing to help out anyone, anytime. Joe was married to Benay Deere Maybury, they shared 46 years, she survives him. Joe served his country with the United States Army for three years. He retired from General Electric after many years in the Steam Turbine Department.
Joe was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, and served as an usher, Red Cross instructor, former member of the Gloversville VFW, and American Legion of Gloversville. He was a Scout Master with Troop 15, he earned the St. George Heroism Award, Pelican and Silver Beaver Awards. Joe’s passion for giving back to our community has been shared with his sons, who learned and walked by the example set by their dad.
Joe is survived by his wife, Benay; his sons, Joseph Jr., (Lisa Eagan) and Raymond (Shirley Briggs), all of Gloversville; also seven grandchildren; his brother, William (Linda Bouck) of Johnstown; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 28, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 South Main Street, Gloversville. A prayer service will be held on Monday, April 29, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Burial will take place will full military honors at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078 or to a charity of one’s choice.
