Patriots blank Huskies in Gloversville tourney
GLOVERSVILLE – Making his first start of the season, Patrick Brown pitched a three-hitter to lead Broadalbin-Perth to a 10-0 win over Gloversville in the opening round of the Gloversville Tournament on Saturday at Husky Field.
Brown struck out 12 and walked five on his way to a complete-game victory for the Patriots, who scored five of their runs in the top of the third inning.
B-P backed Brown with a 12-hit offensive attack, lead by Tim Gordon’s 2-for-4 effort that included three RBIs and a run scored.
Luigi Magliocca, A.J. Klemczak, Joe Zarecki and Anthony Payne all had two hits for the Patriots (3-3 overall). Magliocca scored three runs and had an RBI, while Payne scored a run and had an RBI.
MIke Visco had a single and two RBIs for B-P, while Anthony Visco had a single, run scored and an RBI.
David Vandenabeele, Kyle Casimiro and Brad Mulligan all had singles for Gloversville (3-4 overall)
In the other first-round game, Schuylerville defeated Fonda-Fultonville in eight innings, 9-7.
The Black Horses trailed 7-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh before scoring five runs in their final at-bat to force extra innings.
Schuylerville (3-4 overall) earned the win with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Matt Saddlemire was 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Black Horses, while Codie Brown and Jake Petralia each went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Seth Berry and Joe Braim each had two hits for Schuylerville.
Baylee Hall was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for FFCS (3-2 overall), while Kevin Myers, Brandon Baker and Pat Hart each had two singles.
Dan Valachovic added a single and two RBIs for the Braves.
The date and times for the tournament’s consolation and championship games have yet to be determined.
Broadalbin-Perth will face Schuylerville in the title game, while FFCS will face Gloversville in the consolation game.
