Men accused of DWI headed to trial in May

JOHNSTOWN – Two trials involving defendants accused of drinking and driving are on the Fulton County Court docket for May.

According to information provided by the county District Attorney’s Office, both trials will be before Judge Richard C. Giardino.

James W. Crawford, 45, of 184 Smith Road, Amsterdam, will stand trial May 20.

Fulton County sheriff’s deputies said Crawford was involved in a two-car crash at 9:16 p.m. Aug. 1 on Route 30, north of County Highway 107 in the town of Perth. He was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

Crawford suffered a neck injury and was taken to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville.

Deputies said the other driver – Olivia S. McMullen, 21, of 6 Elman St., Broadalbin – complained of a leg injury and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam.

Crawford was traveling south on Route 30 and drove his car onto the northbound lane, striking McMullen’s car, deputies said. McMullen’s vehicle left the east side of the highway, struck two mailboxes and a sign post, and was forced into guide rails. Crawford’s car then struck an earth embankment before coming back onto the highway, deputies said.

Prosecuting at trial will be Assistant District Attorney Chad Brown.

Attorney Michael Viscosi will appear for the defense.

DWI trial

Steven T. Dillenbeck, 35, of 165 Edick Road, Johnstown, also will stand trial May 6 before Giardino.

Prosecuting will be Assistant District Attorney Kelli McCoski, and Viscosi will again appear for the defense.

Dillenbeck was indicted by a county grand jury Sept. 21 on charges of felony driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

Deputies said he was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition at 5:55 p.m. Dec. 17, 2011, on Old Peck Hill Road in the town. The indictment says Dillenbeck also pulled away while being handcuffed by a deputy and fought while being put in a patrol car.
