Man robbed bar in city: police
GLOVERSVILLE – City police said officers arrested a man who robbed a bar and threatened to kill two people.
Edward C. Jones, 53, of 2128 Route 67, was charged with third-degree robbery and two counts of grand larceny, all felony charges.
Police said the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the Sacandaga Elks, 120 Washington St. Police said Jones, a patron at the establishment, waited until the other patrons left before striking up a conversation with the bartender and another woman. The conversation led to Jones threatening to kill the pair if the bartender did not cooperate by opening the cash register and giving him money from it, police said.
During the incident, police said, Jones took a phone from one of the victims so the police could not be immediately contacted.
Jones was arraigned in City Court and held without bail.
