Nethaway named Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Leading the University at Albany baseball team to a 3-0 series sweep over conference foe Stony Brook, junior Josh Nethaway was named the America East Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.?

Nethaway, a Fonda-Fultonville graduate, led UAlbany with a team-best .455 batting average and .727 slugging percentage, logging a home run, three RBIs, and four runs scored. Nethaway crossed the plate and lined at least one hit in each game, including a pair of multi-hit performances.?

Facing a 4-0 deficit in game one, Nethaway capped the Danes’ sixth-inning rally with a game-tying two-run home run with two outs. Nethaway recorded two hits in each of the final two games, including driving in the game-tying run in the series finale, as well as scoring what would become the game-winning run.?

On the season, Nethaway boasts a .326 batting average in conference play and .299 average overall, piloting UAlbany with 18 runs batted in, seven doubles, and two home runs.?

Nethaway has also started all 24 games in either right field or as the designated hitter, owning a perfect fielding percentage with 38 putouts and one assist.?

The Player of the Week honor marks the second for UAlbany’s squad this season, and the first for Nethaway in his career.?Nethaway and the Great Danes have now won four straight games and look to keep the momentum going into Tuesday’s non-conference doubleheader at Marist.

UAlbany will then return to league play Saturday and Sunday at Binghamton.
