Sanford farm plans Derby party

AMSTERDAM – The Friends of the Sanford Stud Farm will host a Kentucky Derby party from 4 to 8 p.m. May 4 at the Recovery Sports Grill, 5005 Route 30.

Admission will be free, according to a news release.

The Broodmare Barn of the former Sanford Stud Farm, 4995 Route 30, has Kentucky Derby memorabilia from Amsterdam’s two derby winners, George Smith in 1916 and Clyde Van Dusen in 1929, the news release said.

Those attending will meet at 4 p.m. at the Broodmare Barn for an informal tour and then go to the Recovery Sports Grill to watch the 139th Kentucky Derby, the news release said.

The event will include a hat contest with prizes for the most original and the prettiest. There also will be a chance to win prizes for picking this year’s derby winner. The prizes are two tickets to a Sanford Stakes luncheon, two tickets to Horse Tales and Cocktails, and a gift basket, the news release said.

A portion of the beverage and food tab will benefit the Friends of Sanford Stud Farm.
