Chamber slates brochure event

JOHNSTOWN – The Fulton-Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a Summer Brochure Exchange for May 9 at the Gateway to the Adirondacks Visitor Center in Vail Mills.

The event will be conducted from 5 to 7 p.m. that day at Fulton County’s tourism center at Routes 29 and 30 in Vail Mills.

Chamber Director of Tourism Gina DaBiere-Gibbs – in a report last week to the Fulton County Board of Supervisors’ Economic Development and Environment Committee – said informational materials will be swapped.

“It’s basically for tourism-related businesses to exchange with each other,” she said.

DaBiere-Gibbs said businesses are encouraged to bring their brochures, flyers, menus and promotional items to the event, and pick up Fulton County maps, travel guides and magazines for their businesses. Business employees will also meet the visitor staff, she said.

Continuing her report, DaBiere-Gibbs told supervisors the Mohawk Region received state Path Through History Grant guidelines. She said a group is working on a plan and requests for proposals to meet a May 10 deadline. She said historic sites, museums, local historians, historic districts, and community groups are asked to participate in Path Through History Weekends June 1 to 2 and June 8 to 9.

DaBiere-Gibbs said the 4th Annual Peck’s Lake Sprint Triathlon is planned for Aug. 3. The event registration is online at: on May 1. She said the goal is for 175 athletes to participate. The visitor center will be open Friday-Monday weekly until summer hours take effect May 19, DaBiere-Gibbs said, and remain open daily through Columbus Day. She said center staff members Bill VanVoast and Eunie Davis will continue as “ambassadors” to Fulton County.
