Area man accused of stealing benefits
ALBANY – State police said an Amsterdam man was arrested March 20 on charges that he collected about $45,000 in unemployment benefits while he was employed.
Raynard E. Brown, 43, of Amsterdam was charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, both felonies.
Troopers said Brown collected $45,090 worth of unemployment benefits while he was actually employed by Adirondack Mechanical Services in Wilton. Brown filed false paperwork with the state Labor Department in an effort to obtain the benefits, troopers said.
Brown was arraigned and sent to Montgomery County Jail. He was scheduled to appear again in City Court.
