Fugitive arrested in Root, police say
ROOT – State police said troopers arrested a fugitive from justice Friday.
Sherman Wilbourne, 29, of Scranton, Pa., was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, false personation and being a fugitive from justice.
Crystal Johnson, no residence listed, was issued tickets stemming from an accident.
Police said troopers Friday saw a disabled vehicle on the shoulder of Route 162 in the town. The driver, Johnson, revealed she lost control of the vehicle and struck a ditch, disabling the vehicle, police said.
Johnson and Wilbourne provided inconsistent information about his identity, police said. A search of the vehicle found a loaded .45 Glock handgun, police said. Troopers learned Wilbourne was a fugitive from justice for an arrest warrant out of Wilkes Barre, Pa., police said.
Wilbourne was arraigned in Town Court and sent to Montgomery County Jail without bail. Wilbourne was scheduled to reappear in court Tuesday.
Johnson was issued tickets returnable to Town Court.
Police did not return a phone call seeking more information.
