McClellan places 21st at state nordic meet
DANSVILLE – Mayfield’s Tom McClellan finished 21st on Monday in the boys 10K classic race at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Nordic Skiing Championships on Monday at Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area.
McClellan posted a time of 35:40.8 in his second trip to the state meet.
Mayfield’s Mitch Akowicz finished 44th with a time of 41:51.5 in his first trip to the state meet.
Shenendehowa’s Austin Huneck won the boys race with a time of 31:36.5.
Pittsford Mendon’s Gavin Hess of Section V was second with a time of 32:21.7, Old Forge’s Adam Luban of Section III was third with a time of 32:36.3, Queensbury’s Ben Anderson was fourth with a time of 32:37.1 and Saratoga Springs’ Brian Halligan was fifth with a time of 32:52.1.
Saratoga Springs’ Seth Mares (seventh, 33:19.2) and Scotia-Glenville’s Matt Forshey (10th, 33:55.7) also posted top-10 showings for Section II.
Other Section II finishers included Queensbury’s Liam Mulshine (14th, 34:17.9), Lake George’s Tory Sweet (23rd, 36:09.2), Johnsburg’s Ethan Cooper (27th, 37:17.6), Queensbury’s Zane Belden (29th, 37:53.9) and Queensbury’s James DeCunzo (32nd, 38:49.4).
Mayfield’s Lidija Nikollaj placed 26th out of 45 skiers with a time of 34:45.7 in her third trip to the state meet.
Honeoye Falls-Lima of Section V had the top two finishers in the 7.5K girls classic race with Hannah Cole winning with a time of 28:42.1, while Riley Douglas (29:54.6) was second.
Queensbury’s Megan Kellogg was Section II’s top finisher, placing third with a time of 30:24.9. Lake George’s Emma Underwood (30:47.5) was fifth and Queensbury’s Tyra Wynn (32:13.0) was 10th.
Other Section II finishers included Shenendehowa’s Sarah Duclos (11th, 32:21.3), Scotia-Glenville’s Becca Kraines (14th, 32:33.9), Guilderland’s Laurie Knapp (19th, 33:38.5), Queensbury’s Celine Dreitlein (20th, 33:55.5), Scotia-Glenville’s Gabbi Rodbell (25th, 34:44.0), Queensbury’s Colleen Rice (28th, 35:29.5), Queensbury’s Kim Hatchett (29th, 35:34.8) and Scotia-Glenville’s Mikayla Thomas (35th, 37:17.3).
Pittsford Mendon of Section V leads the boys team standings with 52 points, while Queensbury is second with 43 points. Old Forge of Section III is third with 42 points, New Paltz of Section IX is fourth with 25 points and Lake Placid of Section VII is fifth with 20 points.
Honeoye Falls-Lima of Section V leads the girls team standings with 55 points, while Queensbury is second with 44 points. Old Forge of Section III is third with 33 points, Saranac Lake of Section VII is fourth with 26 points and Wallkill of Section IX is fifth with 21 points.
Section II leads the boys nordic team scoring with 235 points. Section V is second with 223 points, Section III is third with 166 points, Section IX is fourth with 76 points and Section VII is fifth with 70 points.
Section V leads the girls nordic team scoring with 243 points. Section II (214 points) is second, Section III (138) is third, Section IX (69) is fourth and Section VIII (61) is fifth.
The state nordic meet concludes today with the boys and girls relay events at 10 a.m. at Bristol Mountain Ski Resort’s Nordic Ski Center.
State Alpine Championships
CANANDAIGUA – Saratoga Springs’ Kieran Mottau was the top Section II boys finisher at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Alpine Skiing Championships on Monday at Bristol Mountain Ski Resort.
Mottau finished his two slalom runs with a combined time of 1:22.60.
Old Forge’s Austin Down of Section III was the top overall finisher in the boys slalom, posting a two-run combined time of 1:21.75, while Windham-Ashland-Jewett’s Aidan Cohane of Section IV was second with a combined time of 1:22.60.
Pittsford Mendon’s Hunter Doyle (1:24.02) of Section V was fourth and Holland Patent’s David Meola (1:24.04) of Section III was fifth.
Christian Brothers Academy’s Michael Merecki was sixth with a two-run time of 1:24.11.
Other Section II finishers included Niskayuna’s Ned Feist (11th, 1:27.78), Glens Falls’ Pat Burton (18th, 1:29.44), Lake George’s Cooper Perkett (22nd, 1:31.97), Queensbury’s Alex Hohman (29th, 1:35.23), Queensbury’s Russell Merchant (35th, 1:37.38) and Queensbury’s James Paolano (38th, 1:40.14). Niskayuna’s Philip Weeber, CBA’s P.J. Kotecki and Stillwater’s Theodore Korenowski all failed to complete their second runs.
In the girls race, Shenendehowa’s Kristen Kruk was Section II’s top finisher, placing fourth with a two-run time of 1:31.75 in the slalom event.
Mercy’s Gibson Donnan won the two-run slalom race with a combined time of 1:26.72.
Old Forge’s Madeline Mahoney of Section III was second with a combined time of 1:31.35, while Honeoye Falls-Lima’s Maggie Gilligan of Section V was third with a time of 1:31.64.
Saratoga Springs’ Sierra Spring (1:37.30) was 10th.
Other Section II finishers included Albany Academy’s Alex MacAffer (12th, 1:38.14), Albany Academy’s Elle Daley (15th, 1:40.21), Saratoga Springs’ Gabbi Hedges (21st, 1:43.29), Shenendehowa’s Courtney Scriven (24th, 1:45.24), Queensbury’s Julia Sante (27th, 1:46.32) and Bolton’s Marnie Chancey (38th, 1:51.93). Shenendehowa’s Julia Smith (Shenendehowa), Queensbury’s Katie Zilka (Queensbury) and Queensbury’s Olivia Paolano all failed to complete their second runs.
The state alpine meet concludes today with the boys and girls giant slalom races at 10 a.m. at Bristol Mountain Ski Resort.
