Local dog moves ahead at Westminster show
A giant schnauzer owned by two Broadalbin men won the breed judging at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City today and will move on to the working-group judging tonight.
Doug Hill and Luke Norton’s 4-year-old Dora earned the honors at the 137th annual show at Piers 92/94. The working-group judging will take place at Madison Square Garden after 7:30 p.m. This part of the show will be aired on the USA Network.
If Dora wins the working-group competition, she will head to the best-in-show competition later tonight, Hill said today.
Hill said the other nine dogs in the breed judging “were really beautiful dogs,” but he wasn’t surprised Dora won.
“We were pretty confident she was going to win. She had been winning all year,” he said.
Hill said he thinks the working-group judging will include 25 to 30 dogs.
He said Dora is an outstanding show dog because she enjoys what she’s doing, understands what she needs to do and “owns her space.”
“She looked outstanding today,” he said. “She has a lot of energy.”
