Amsterdam man charged in stabbing
AMSTERDAM – City police said a city resident was arrested for stabbing a man in the leg Tuesday.
Jan C. Guerra-Santos, 21, of 13 Morris St., Apartment 2, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony.
Police said the department received a call at about 3:25 p.m. Tuesday regarding a man who had been stabbed.
Police said officers went to Guy Park Avenue, near the intersection with Kimball Street. Officers saw the victim, an unresponsive man, in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
The victim was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital to receive treatment for the wound to his leg. The victim was later transferred to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
Police said the victim was stable, and the injury does not appear to be life-threatening.
Police said officers learned the victim had been stabbed in the leg and was attempting to drive himself to the hospital. The victim was unable to continue to drive due to severe blood loss, police said.
Police said officers found the location on John Street where the victim was stabbed. Guerra-Santos was located a short time later.
Police said officers learned Guerra-Santos, the son of the victim’s girlfriend, and the victim were arguing over family issues. The victim was then stabbed in the leg while sitting in his vehicle, police said.
Police said the weapon used in the attack, believed to be a large kitchen knife, has not been recovered.
Guerra-Santos was held for arraignment in City Court.
