JHS wrestlers finish eighth at Corinth Invitational

CORINTH – Johnstown finished eighth at the 22-team Corinth Invitational on Saturday.

Shenendehowa won the team title with 208.5 points, while Corinth was second with 170 points. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake was third with 140 points, while Queensbury (138 points) was fourth and Galway (128.5) was fifth. Johnstown was eighth with 78 points.

Patrick Morrison won the 182-pound title for the Sir Bills with a 9-4 decision over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s Joe Messare.

Joe Nellis won the 220-pound title, pinning Tyler LaPlant of Middlebury, Vt., in the finals.

Austen Manchester was fourth for Johnstown at 182 pounds.

Center State Conference Tourney

MARCY – Dolgeville finished second Saturday in the Center State Conference Tournament at Whitesboro High School.

Holland Patent won the team title with 145 points, while Dolgeville was second with 142 points.

Canastota (138 points) was third, Adirondack (122) was fourth and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill (121.5) was fifth.

Triston Engle won the 152-pound title for the Blue Devils, pinning Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Gage Patry in 2:50 in the championship bout.

Daniel Fox (106), Ben Nastovski (120) and Kasey Foster (182) also reached the finals for Dolgeville. Fox lost 4-2 to Adirondack’s Derek Spann, while Nastovski dropped a 6-4 decision to New Hartford’s Daniel Fancett. Foster lost by pinfall to Canastota’s Zach Zupan. Noah Handy (99), Tyler Richards (138) and Richard Lyon (160) all finished fourth for Dolgeville, while Jimmy Doolittle (170) was fifth.

Adirondack’s Derek Spann (106) and Tyler Spann (160) were named the lower and upper weight Most Outstanding Wrestlers, respectively.
