Elizabeth Malagisi, 99, of Gloversville, NY, peacefully entered into eternal rest at Nathan Littauer Hospital Extended Care on the morning of January 17, 2013. Her family was by her side. The daughter of the late Andrew and Angelina Palumbo Tascillo, she was born in Caiazzo , Italy, in the providence of Caserta on November 29, 1913.
Elizabeth was born and raised in Italy, where she also attended school. She came to the United States in 1928 when she was 14 year old. She married Pasquale Malagisi on September 20, 1936. She and Pasquale spent 52 loving years together, raising their family in Gloversville until his passing in 1988. Elizabeth worked for various glove-making companies in Gloversville, often sewing at home while raising her family. She once had sewn gloves for the queen of England. She is of the Catholic faith and very devoted to her church, a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit (formerly known as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel). She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elizabeth will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and gentle, caring ways. She will be dearly missed by everyone.
Her loving family includes her sons, Francesco Malagisi, Sr.(Sally) of Caroga Lake, Andrew Malagisi (Cecelia) of Gloversville and Joseph Malagisi (Kathy) of Dublin, Ohio; daughters Michelina “Lena” DeRosa(Frank) and Angelina Savage (John) both of Gloversville; son-in-law, Brian Veeder of Gloversville; a brother Anthony Tascillo and sister Viola Tascillo also of Gloversville. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, several nieces, nephews and many family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by a daughter, Mary E. Veeder, siblings, Salvatore Tascillo, Rose Piazza, Lucy Ferrara and Mary Sirtoli.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday evening from 4 PM until 7 PM at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gloversville at 11 AM. Burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown will take place in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society or to the Church of the Holy Spirit Building Fund.
