Raymond G. Sartin Jr.

Raymond G. Sartin Jr. passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam on Thursday, January 17, 2013. He was born January 15, 1949, the son of the late Raymond Sartin Sr. and Delores Oare Erb.

Raymond was a lifetime resident of the area and attended Gloversville schools. Throughout his life Ray worked for various leather industries until his retirement in 1991 from Pan American Leather Company. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed most every outdoor activity such as fishing, boating, camping and four wheeling. Ray liked to entertain friends in his garage and spend his summers in Caroga Lake. He was a member of the Concordia Club, the Pine Tree Rifle Club, the U-Turn Hunting Lodge and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Assoc. He enjoyed listening to country music, watching his favorite TV shows and most importantly spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who were the loves of his life.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Sherry Poyfair Sartin, whom he married on May 22, 1976; sons, Christopher Sartin Sr. of Broadalbin, Eric (Kati) Sartin of Gloversville; daughters, Amy Sartin (Jason Christman) of Gloversville and Bobbi Jo Morway of Vermont; a brother, Richard (Lisa) Sartin; sisters, Theresa (Ted) Tedesco, Claudette (Tom) Crocetta and Nancy (Jim) Canary; beloved grandchildren, Mikalla, Brooke and Zoey Sartin, Tanner and Rilee Christman, Christopher Jr., Heather and Nathan Sartin, Cliff, Daniel and Tajia Morway. He is also survived by a devoted mother-in-law, Betty Poyfair; and brother-in-law, Larry Poyfair; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by: a son, Raymond Sartin III; a brother, John Sartin; sisters, Barbara Darling and Shirley Killcullen; his aunt, Christina Sartin; and father-in-law, Leroy Poyfair.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, January 21, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Pastor William Sharp will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory for the love of his grandchildren to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
