McClellan finishes fifth at Johnstown Invitational

NORTH RIVER – Several area nordic skiers posted solid showings Thursday at the Johnstown Invitational at Garnet Hill.

The Mayfield girls finished fourth in the team standings, while the Mayfield boys were sixth.

The Johnstown boys placed eighth and the girls finished sixth. Canajoharie’s girls team posted a seventh-place finish.

Mayfield’s Lidija Nikollaj was seventh in the girls race with a time of 16:17 to lead area finishers, while Johnstown’s Quincey Brabant (16:18) was ninth.

Sarah Montgomery (17:39) was 14th for Mayfield, Emily Cromie (17:46) was 15th, Hanna Cromie (18:28) was 21st and Allie Miller (20:44) was 34th.

Morgan Swedick (18:31) was 22nd for Johnstown, Kayla Groesbeck (20:36) was 33rd, Jerica Holland (22:24) was 40th and Madison Smrtic (23:26) was 42nd.

Catie Corrigan led Canajoharie, placing 25th with a time of 19:04. Rosemary Trahan (19:33) was 28th for the Lady Cougars, Paige Shovelton (20;51) was 35th and Quinn Li O’Shea (21:03) was 36th.

Lake George’s Emma Underwood won the girls race with a time of 13:37. Shenendehowa’s Sarah Duclos (13:45) was second and Queensbury’s Megan Kellogg (14:30) was third.

Scotia-Glenville won the girls team title with 23 points, while Shenendehowa was second with 24 points. Queensbury (26 points) was third, Mayfield (36) was fourth and Guilderland (44) completed the top five. Johnstown (64) was sixth and Canajoharie (88) was seventh.

In the boys race, Mayfield’s Tom McClellan posted a fifth-place finish with a time of 27:27. Mitch Akowicz (30:47) was 19th for the Panthers, Austin Davis (35:56) was 36th, Brent Gray (37:42) was 38th and Devante Marshall (39:36) was 39th.

Eric Brower led Johnstown, placing 14th with a time of 30:17. Cameron Roten (32:26) was 25th for the Sir Bills, while Jack Brabant (37:02) was 37th.

Queensbury’s Ben Anderson won the boys race with a time of 25:27. Shenendehowa’s Austin Huneck (26:18) was second and Saratoga Springs’ Seth Mares (26:20) was third.

Queensbury won the boys team title with a total of 16 points. Shenendehowa (21 points) was second and Saratoga Springs (28) was third. Mayfield was sixth with 60 points and Johnstown was eighth with 76 points.
