Anna Burda, age 95, of Johnstown, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, in Hagaman at the home of her son, after a brief illness.
She was born in Johnstown on August 2, 1917, a daughter of the late Florian Mellis and Louisa Hrdlicka Mellis.
Mrs. Burda was a graduate of Johnstown High School and in 1960 received an associate degree from FMCC.
Anna was employed at the former Leon Swears Glove Co. until her retirement.
She was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Church, now Holy Trinity Church and was a member of the Rosary Society and Catholic Sokol.
Anna also assisted with the Memorial Day Association.
On June 3, 1939, she was united in marriage to Andrew Burda, and he passed away on August 19, 1986.
Survivors include a son, Stephen (Marjorie) Burda of Hagaman; five beloved grandchildren, Stephen (Connie) Burda, Timothy Burda, Kathleen (Dan) Bryk, Kelly (Kenneth) Morrison, Jeffrey (Christa) Burda; 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 17, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Church, Glebe Street, Johnstown.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday prior to the service from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.
Interment will be in St Anthony’s Cemetery in the spring.
