Mont. Co. official vacates post
FONDA – Longtime youth activities leader Jennifer Petteys served her last day as director of the Montgomery County Department of Youth, ATI & Veteran’s Services this morning, leaving a vacancy.
She had also served as the Montgomery County Stop-DWI coordinator.
Petteys informed the Board of Supervisors she would be leaving over a week ago, said Montgomery County Board of Supervisors Chairman and Root town Supervisor John Thayer.
“She was a very good employee,” Thayer said. “… I think she did a fantastic job.”
Thayer said Petteys is leaving to pursue one of her favorite pastime: softball.
“She has always had a passion for teaching and coaching ladies softball,” Thayer said.
Thayer said Petteys will be coaching at a four-year college for ladies softball. She had previously acted as coach and manager of the Tri-Valley Aces softball team.
Petteys, executive director of the Montgomery County Department of Youth, ATI & Veteran’s Services, served the county for several years, leading and combining operations for multiple services
In 2011, she informed the board of supervisors her department already shared support staff with the Veterans Service Agency.
Petteys, Veterans Service Agency Director Dan Roth and senior clerk-typist Brenda Rava had discussed ideas on improving efficiency within the two departments.
At the time, Petteys said she spoke with Palatine Supervisor Brian Sweet, chairman of the Public Safety Committee, Root Supervisor John Thayer, chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee, and St. Johnsville Supervisor Dominick Stagliano, chairman of the Personnel Committee, about consolidating the departments.
The Youth Bureau was combined several years ago with what was then called Alternatives to Incarceration.
“In the past, they were two departments with a shared support staff, and now they are one department,” Petteys said at the time.
Thayer said a joint meeting with the Montgomery County Public Safety and Personnel committees is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the vacancy.
